Introduction
American Corner at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) Library was officiated by signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) and US Embassy, Public Affairs Sections on the 7 March 2018 (Tuesday) at Gallery of Development, UMK City Campus. The MoU was signed by UMK Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato 'Dr. Husaini Omar and was witnessed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dato 'Dr. Ibrahim Che Omar and Chief Librarian, Mr. Azman Hashim. While the US Embassy was represented by the US Embassy Public Affairs Counselor, Mr. Bradley A.Hurst witnessed by Sarah Talalay and Sadayan Riazurrahman.
UMK Library became the second academic library in Malaysia to establish an American Corner at the university. It is the efforts of partnership between the United States of America and UMK in providing a special collection of information about the United States of America. It is also to provide the most up-to- date and accurate information about U.S. policies, education, geography, history, society, culture, and others to UMK students and general public in Kelantan.
The American Corner will offer unique and special collections covering a wide range of knowledge and knowledge for students and people accessing materials from various aspects such as entrepreneurship, English language learning and teaching, US educational opportunities and American history. In addition, this corner also provides US administration, literature, art and culture administrative reference materials, and environmental protection as well as sustainable development.
Objective
The main objective is to establish a corner which will gather materials about the US and organize activities which will be benefited by UMK community and the local community. The US Embassy, Public Affairs Sections will work together with The Office of Library and Knowledge Management UMK to ensure that materials provided are appropriate for and responsive to the needs of UMK community and local community. The American corner will also help UMK students and the public on entrepreneurial programs that will benefit all 10,000 UMK students.
This corner will also be equipped with printed and electronic materials and the library will always organize sessions or programs that benefits lecturers and students.
The corner will operate in the UMK Library and Knowledge Management UMK Kampus Kota Pengkalan Chepa and is expected to move to UMK Bachok when the new library was fully completed in August this year.
Collection
The American Corner will gather collection such as reference books, high quality pictorial books, encyclopedia and current American magazines and journals, electronic and online resources, DVDs and on American technology.

It also contains resources for children, for learning and teaching English, and for accessing U.S. government reports.
